Precious photos for keeps

Parents in the (Greenwich) Borough are being given a special opportunity to bring their little ones down to WHSmith at Greenwich Shopping Park to have their photo taken on Tuesday, 01 September to Saturday, 05 September 2009.

Pixi Fotos, a specialist in children and baby photography, will set up its mobile studio at the WHSmith store and for just under £5.00, parents will receive one picture with the opportunity to purchase more on the day. No appointment necessary.

Purses at the Ready as New Look Comes to Greenwich

This Thursday free your day, cancel those meetings and leave the kids at the in-laws. Leading fashion retailer, New Look launches its new store at Greenwich Shopping Park off Bugsby's Way in Charlton this Thursday, March 12, 2009. We know we'll be there for sure.

Shop of the Week: Fashion Nails (4.5/6)

This place already has a lot going against it before you even decide to go in. It's in West Greenwich, specifically on Trafalgar Road. It's got a flashy window sign with a big flashing American Flag and if that weren't enough it looks almost shabby. When you walk in, things aren't any better as you discover that none of the staff there speak much English and so a lot of sign language and patience should be at the ready. So, why is this place among my most recommended salons in the area?

Simple: Once you're done with explaining what you want done with your nails and you've gone through all the polite nods and smiles, the girls are fantastic. Acrylics are very professionally done although you can opt to have a regular manicure or pedicure. They do have some really funky designs to add onto your nails that they can either brush paint for you or opt for glue on tiny shiny diamonds. I had mine done on my big toe in the shape of a flower and with the warm weather we've been having, they've made wearing my flip flops a very trendy occasion.

I have been going there for some time now and the place is definitely undergoing many changes.Two months ago they brought in this really fantastic pedicure chair that gives glorious back massages as you get your feet done. Heavenly. They have also increased the number of work tables and they have introduced a few other niceties that is not only a sign that they are obviously on the road to appearing more professional but it also means that they are having enough of a regular clientele who they are wanting to do this for.

The service is great, the girls very friendly (as much as they can be given the language barrier) and they are very accomodating if you come in with kids. They are quick, efficient and the results are well worth going again and again. Only for quality of work and service, this place gets my highest recommendation. A lot of other salons down East Greenwich who may look better have a lot to learn from Fashion Nails. Booking is essential as they are busy.

I've been out and about this week looking at all the shops and sneaking a peak at what they're selling in terms of Christmas decorations and Christmas goodies. Here is one of the shops that you must check out this week-end:

The Red Gecko: This shop always gets our listing at Christmas. They are carrying the same handmade Christmas angels that are just darling and are collectibles. So fantastic. But they've got wonderful metal Santa trains, great for serving up all those yummy candies for when the kids gather round. For those who enjoy a bit of sparkle, check out their amazing sequined leaves for £8.99. Fabulous!

Shopping at Greenwich Just Got Easier!

If, like yours truly, you are a shopaholic and have always found a place in your heart for Greenwich, then shopping just got easier for you.

Traders at Greenwich Town Centre have just launched a new appropriately named website called (www.lovegreenwich.co.uk). I must tell you that it seems that it's going to be a hit. This site has been a long time coming. It offers a comprehensive shopping directory along with a listing of news, events and promotions taking place in the town center.

For those of you who don't live close to that area fret not, as December 1 witnesses the launch of another website called www.livegreenwich.gov.uk which will be launched by the East Greenwich Traders. Even Trafalagar Road and Woolwich Road shops have jumped on the wagon.

So Organic opens flagship store in Greenwich

So Organic has opened its flagship store in Greenwich’s bustling indoor market. So Organic’s full range from its online store will be available, including beauty products such as its own range of everyday basics, which can be found as you walk into the beauty department at the front of the store.

At the back of the shop is the house and home department. Here you can use the Ecover refill station and get everything for an organic home from silk filled duvets to Biofa natural paints to loo rolls. There’s also a baby section where you can pick up your choice of washable or disposable eco nappies, maternity products and toiletries.

So Organic’s founder, Samantha Burlton, is on site to answer any customer queries and the shop has signed up to an ethical loyalty scheme so you could get Bags of Change for your organic shopping.

Xmas Tree decorations!

I have just found the most adorable, fashionable, and affordable Christmas tree decorations in Greenwich, London.... the best so far are the following:

Hide All (within the covered part of Greenwich Market): forget baubles and tinsel, these are a must-have on your tree this season. ChiChi got a few herself. Instead of tinsel, this shop has candy strings (shiny and colorful), ChiChi loves the little gold slippers that would look just wonderful up there on the tree. Each one costs about 4.99 pounds only. Cutie!

Red Gheko: Also in the covered part of Greenwich. This sells the most adorable handmade fairies ever. The feathered ones are for 9.95 pounds, while the bauble-come-decorated fairy is for 7.5 pounds. A bit on the expensive side but these will last for years to come.
